“We’re Disposing of What We Consume” Event Held on Our Campus

The “We're Disposing of What We Consume” event was organized jointly by OzU Cares Volunteers and the HSE Community on our campus on December 18 and 19, 2024. The event was made possible with active support from The Student Development and Experience Department under the Dean of Students, the Sustainability & QHSE team, the Office for Learning and Teaching Enhancement (OLTE), and the Operations Department.

The event begins with a 30-minute seminar providing information on OzU’s waste management practices and recycling initiatives. Following the workshop, all students are divided into three groups and participate in collecting waste across the campus. They are accompanied by cleaning staff, HSE Community, and OzU Cares volunteers. In its fourth edition, this initiative has attracted around 500 students in total.

Purpose of the Event:

• To provide information about OzU’s waste management processes.
• To raise students’ awareness of recycling and foster sensitivity towards environmental pollution.
• To contribute to a clean and healthy environment by collaborating with cleaning staff to collect waste on campus.
• To enable students to empathize with cleaning staff to understand the challenges of cleaning operations.
• To prioritize existing issues and find solutions in response to student feedback.
