A First at OzU: “The Journey of Water” Hosted As a Carbon-Neutral Event!

Dear Members of the OzU Community,

In alignment with the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System, and the Water Efficiency Project launched by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, the "Journey of Water" seminar was held on March 20, 2025, on our campus in celebration of World Water Day (March 22).

For the first time, our event was hosted as a carbon-neutral event, as a testimony of our commitment to raising awareness of sustainability.  The carbon footprint generated throughout the event was calculated and offset with an additional margin (1 ton CO₂ equivalent). This offset was achieved with the support of Committed, by contributing to a renewable energy project to minimize our environmental impact.  The offsetting process was completed through Gold Standard-certified carbon credits, and the respective certificate is attached for your reference.

The primary goal of this event was to raise sustainability awareness. It was conducted as part of the SEC 101 course and the OzU Cares Volunteering Program, with active support from HSE Community.  The event was further supported by the Student Development and Experience Department at the Office of the Dean of Students, the Sustainability & QHSE Department, and the Office for Learning and Teaching Enhancement (OLTE).

The seminar was delivered by a guest instructor from ISKI (Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration), providing valuable insights about water management and the importance of water.
